Greetings Guardians!


Rich day today!

We collected several requests to show the rulebook and so we decided to publish it on the project page.


We apologize to you, backers, if this has not been done before but in our minds there was an intention to release its 100% finished version along with Timeless and other expansions, including translations.


Please consider that while it is 99% complete it is to be considered WIP and that some minor rules will most likely be fixed or eliminated to further improve the gameplay.


But now back to Timeless!


Darkest Doom introduces the final Eclipse mutation, and a new fifth player mode introduced by TImeless: 

Yes, Eclipse can be played !!!

Eclipse's: The final phase

The Darkness was using its energy to try and stop Eclipse's metamorphosis. It attempted to give Eclipse new objectives to subconsciously distract it from its desire to be free. The bloodthirst that used to be focused on the Temples was now shifting to the Citadels. The only way to stop Eclipse was to have it engage several targets simultaneously, creating more chaos within it. The Citadels were the new target of its blind fury. Once it reached the first Citadel and contaminated it with a Dark Filament different from those left by the other Lightless, the Darkness' thrall over Eclipse was starting to fade again. Eclipse's new target, then, were the "Hunters" (Lightless' second evolution name). It did not take long to find one, and Eclipse soon destroyed and absorbed him.


A new metamorphosis was taking place: Eclipse's consciousness was peaking in sync with its evolved physical structure. Eclipse was finally free from manipulation. It was now free to spread despair and choose which prey to hunt down. The Darkness was losing the war against itself.


GAMEPLAY 

We can finally let the cat out of the bag! Eclipse will be Darkest Doom's fifth player (sixth if you're also using the expansion Elaine, Aion's Herald).

When the Event Token on the Darkest Doom track allows Eclipse to enter play, its regular mini will be placed on one of the two entrances to the Winter Mountain, as chosen by the player controlling it. The player must draw one card from both available decks: Eclipse's Attack and Bloodthirst. Whenever the player ends their turn with no Eclipse's Attack or Bloodthirst cards in their hand, they must draw one. To increase its stats, Eclipse must place the new Dark Filaments found on the upper half of its sheet, unlocking Health/Attack and card limit upgrades. The Bloodthirst card indicates each turn's target(s).

Eclipse's metamorphosis is set in motion by killing Lightless. Eclipse gains Metamorphosis points depending on the type of Lightless killed:

3 for Beaters

4 for Hunters

5 for the Leader of the Hunt

Next to each version of Eclipse, on its sheet you will find the Metamorphosis point track: the black Metamorphosis token must be placed in the first space, marked with a 0, and it will move forward each time a Lightless is killed. When the token reaches the next column, the new mini is unlocked. Each Eclipse's Attack and Bloodthirst card shows 3 different traits, one for each of the creature's three versions.

When any other Lightless Event tokens are unlocked during the game and the creature is already in play, these tokens are used every time it dies. In this case, the token is removed from play to get the creature back in the game. If there are no tokens available and the creature dies, it must wait until a new token is unlocked. If all tokens have already been unlocked, the creature will not be able to enter play again. Eclipse's goal is to reach its final phase before the nine days are up, all the while making sure no Guardian satisfies one of the four victory conditions and all the Citadels and Blood Temples are contaminated by either its special Dark Filaments or regular Dark Filaments.

TIMELESS DAY 7 ; Eclipse's Metamorphosis

we are excited to introduce the HEAVIEST Lightless that the Darkness has given birth



Eclipse's Metamorphosis

Being on Betel was mutating the Darkness' new child, who started to act outside of its control. The blind rage against the Guardians that had spawned Eclipse was now turning into something new: awareness. Eclipse now realized it was strong enough to need no master, and it developed new ambitions. The Darkness was faced now with a new and most fearsome threat: itself.

The Lightless was trying to forgo its never ending thirst for the Blood of Temples and deny its own primitive nature, which had been imposed upon it. However, during its furious hunt for Blood, it encountered a Beater and - seeing the first type of Lightless - realized its superiority. At the sight of such a creature, Eclipse's bloodthirst fizzled out, leaving in its wake a homicidal rage towards its siblings.

It devoured the creature at a horrifying speed. Once the Beater was destroyed, Eclipse started to mutate. Its outside appearance began to match its inside, something that the Darkness now feared more than the Order and the Guardians.

Eclipse was starting a new phase of its metamorphosis, a psychophysical one.

GAMEPLAY Eclipse's Metamorphosis

The new Bloodthirst cards allow Eclipse to select targets other than the Blood Temples: it can now target Citadels as well as Lightless. If it attacks a Citadel, the player who had an alliance loses it, if its target is another Lightless and Eclipse wins the battle, it will start its metamorphosis into a sentient creature, becoming smarter and aiming to destroy and dominate Betel, just like the Darkness which spawned it.

This metamorphosis has shown us a Creature that will face both the Guardians and the Lightless, it will be both an ally but also a threat.


Fortunately, the entry into the field is linked to its evolution which is determined if Eclipse kills a Lightless.


Guardians, will you have to take down the Lightless to prevent the metamorphosis, or will you defend the Citadels to set up an ambush? If you desire, you can tackle it but armed to the teeth !!!!


Eclipse is an above-average size model (Oversize Minis) , even for Darkest Doom, it is huge, like the danger we will face when it is on Betel.


Tomorrow we will have the opportunity to unveil the new mode that introduces 5-player to Timeless.

TIMELESS DAY 6 ; Lightless, Eclipse

Today the Darkness shows us a new and terrible threat !!!


Lightless, Eclipse


New dawns and new nightfalls contaminated by the Darkness were blowing away any hope of survival, just like the wind blows away leaves at the feet of trees in autumn.


Betel's internal struggles between the Order, the Shaman Tribes, and every Guardian's inner chaos allowed the Darkness to free itself and think as smartly as those who hindered it. The aura of Dark energy endlessly flowing from the Moon was starting to become thicker, brighter, more aware of its evolution and its surroundings. Greed, oppression, ostentation and vengeance - everything was increasing its strength and fury. This mutation resulted in a new birth, a new Lightless, unique and terrifying, as frightening as the grin of someone who knows exactly how to take down their opponent.

Eclipse was the name of the new creature born of the Darkness.


Eclipse, who does not need eyes to see the truth; Eclipse, who stops the light from shining on the faces of the unworthy; Eclipse, where each new dawn is an after image of past and future Nightfall.


Physically different both in appearance and movement, the Darkness had created something similar to the people of Betel, aware but not conscious enough to act differently from an ancient insatiable beast ready to hunt. It had only one target: the Blood Temples. Those monumental structures had to stop granting the Guardians' rebirth. Eclipse would do nothing more than take away all hope.

GAMEPLAY Lightless, Eclipse:

Eclipse enters play once the matching icon is revealed after being unlocked on the Darkest Doom track. 


It will have new Attack cards available, different from the other Lightless cards. Eclipse is the most dangerous creature in the Dark, not so much for her strength but for the collateral damage it can cause.

When it enters play is placed on one of the two entrances to the Winter Mountain. Its first Goal is to contaminate the Blood Temples with a new type of Dark Filament. 

This new Dark Filament fully contaminates the Blood Temple receiving it while in the base game it takes three normal Dark Filaments to fully contaminate a Temple. Moreover, each Temple contaminated by this new Dark Filament stops Guardians from being reborn there: a truly devastating threat to all of Betel.


Now we are faced with something that was not foreseen: a creature that, unlike the other Lightless, has a consciousness of the strengths of the Guardians, a threat that must be eradicated and feared more than any other. The risk of not having "respawn" active must be avoided (a blood temple will be unusable for rebirth when it has the special dark filament and 3 normal dark filaments). Eclipse will also have weaknesses that will allow the Guardians to be able to challenge it without ruining the flow of the game or allowing a monopoly of the Darkness during the match. 

The new Dark Filaments can be removed like the Dark Filaments from the base game.



Tomorrow we will have the opportunity to better understand how the situation "evolves".

TIMELESS DAY 5; Frederick, Knight of the Guardians

Welcome back, Guardians!

the fifth day of "Timeless" closes the presentation of the Order's alliance.


Frederick, Knight of the Guardians

When Mosh and the Hags recovered the fourth Manuscript, Frederick was waiting for them outside the North Citadel. The Knight of the Guardians knew this would be suicide, but he had no other choice. He furiously charged the Shaman, but he could not take three steps before vines emerging from the ground started blocking his legs. The Hags - who were keeping at a distance to concentrate on their Witchcraft - bought Mosh enough time to approach the Knight and finish him.


Just as the Shaman, looming over an immobilized Frederick, started to channel his magical power, the sound of approaching hooves came from the road connecting the forest to the Citadel. Roana, one of the four Guardians, appeared and interrupted the execution.

Faced by the Guardian, Mosh attacked her with words:

"We had a score to settle, Roana, as you know. You know what the Order did to our families and you knew this day would come eventually. Now, we'll leave with the Manuscripts we came for, and Frederick will be executed as a warning to all of Betel: the Order's time is up. Don't get in the way of our destiny."

Roana did not answer. She gripped the Log of Roses, the artifact which allowed her to unleash her spells, firmly in her hands. She bolstered herself and, one step at a time, she approached Mosh and hugged him tightly, as only siblings can. The hug was filled with memories of their adolescence, laughter, crying, dreams of a better future. Roana whispered something in Mosh's ear, then she approached the Citadel's gate and, without turning, said: "They'll come looking for you in the morning. You desire something which isn't yours, and it won't take long for the other Guardians to find you; however, unlike just now, they won't give you a hug."


As the Guardian ventured deeper within the Citadel, Frederick's body was sinking slowly into the ground, the vines dragging him down. What had looked like a whispered goodbye was actually a spell cast on the Knight of the Guardians. Roana had buried Frederick.


The Knight was able to survive thanks to Roana, who stopped the Hags' spells the next day and brought him back to the surface. She did not explain how she was able to find him and did not answer his questions about Mosh.


It took four days for him to regain his strength, and as soon as he was ready to hunt down the Shaman, a messenger from the Council of the Elders gave him the news about Elaine's self-proclamation as High Priestess and appointment of Urian as Knight of the Guardians.

Standing before the Triad, Frederick was willing to do anything to reclaim his fame, and the Council was ready to send him into the field once more. Unlike Basil, Frederick's role, his mission, was to strengthen the Citadels' defenses with the aid of the best Vanguards of the Order to smite once and for all the creatures born of the Darkness, the Lightless.

 GAMEPLAY FREDERICK, KNIGHT OF THE GUARDIANS:

If a Guardian chooses to aid Frederick's cause, they must follow the same mechanics described for Basil.

(If a Guardian chooses to aid Frederick's cause, he can equip the Legendary character after finding the Frederick card in the Encounter deck and paying the required Relic cost)

Once both quests are completed, Frederick's mini is removed from play, the Legendary character card is flipped over to its B side and the Vanguards minis are placed on top of it. 

This new Equipment card allows the player to place a miniature on each allied Citadel, defending it from any kind of threat, Creature or other Guardians (with dark contamination cards).

If the Guardian dies while helping Frederick, Frederick's mini and all related cards within the Encounters deck are permanently removed from this game session.


Each Vanguard will have detailed stats on its card. In combat, the Vanguard adds the roll of 3 dice and adds them to its stats; the player who owns it can use the Crimsonfate to modify the results as in a normal fight between Guardians or against Creatures. Each Vanguard can stay on an allied Citadel but always a maximum of 1 per Citadel.


Frederick is the latest character that the Order deploys to fight the Darkness. Will Basil and Frederick be enough to stop the Calamity?

Dark Contaminations Evolutions , ACT II

Filament Shield:

As imposing as the Citadels’ walls, the Filament Shield is the most efficient evolution of the Dark Contaminations when it comes to defense. Whoever wields its power is immune to all types of Witchcraft, making the Guardian virtually invincible and a threat that should not be underestimated.

FILAMENT SHIELD IS CONSIDERED AN EQUIPMENT CARD.

- SEDUCTION: JUST LIKE THE OTHER EVOLUTIONS, THE COST TO PLAY THIS CARD IS ACTUALLY A BONUS FOR THE PLAYER.

- ACTIVATION: ACTIVATE THE CARD BY REMOVING ONE DECAY TOKEN; EACH TIME YOU REMOVE ONE DECAY TOKEN, THE CLOSEST CITADEL AND BLOOD TEMPLE RECEIVE ONE DARK FILAMENT.

BY ACTIVATING IT, YOU GAIN: YOU CAN NO'T BE TARGETED BY SPELLS, TRAPS AND ADJACENT ATTACKS; EACH (MOON ICONS) AND (NIGHTFALL ICONS) COUNT AS (SHIELD ICONS). YOU CAN NEVER BE TARGETED BY THE LIGHTLESS.

Lift:

The last evolution of the Dark Contaminations is the Lift: Dark Filaments rising from the ground allow the Guardian to move at great speed. The Lift allows the wielder to reach all zones of Betel faster, and any other Guardian trying to hinder them would be faced with a nearly impossible task, such as trying to catch one's own shadow.

LIFT IS CONSIDERED AN EQUIPMENT CARD.

- SEDUCTION: JUST LIKE THE OTHER EVOLUTIONS, THE COST TO PLAY THIS CARD IS ACTUALLY A BONUS FOR THE PLAYER.

- ACTIVATION: ACTIVATE THE CARD BY REMOVING ONE DECAY TOKEN; EACH TIME YOU REMOVE ONE DECAY TOKEN, THE CLOSEST CITADEL AND BLOOD TEMPLE RECEIVE ONE DARK FILAMENT.

BY ACTIVATING IT, YOU GAIN: MOVE TO AN ADJACENT ZONE. YOU CAN DO SO ONCE PER GAME PHASE OF ANY GUARDIAN DURING NIGHTFALL. YOU CAN NO'T BE TARGETED WITH TRAPS PLACED IN GAME ZONES AND CAN NO'T BE TARGETED BY THE LIGHTLESS.

And now, what should we expect from the Darkness?


Will the Order be able to have strategies that can help find a balance in these terrifying nine days?

It's like a nightmare within a nightmare!


Which way will the needle of the balance move?



 Model size, details and colors.

Many of you have asked for the exact measurements of the models; here is a scheme to better understand the scale of each model. 

As you can see, some of them are veeeeeery huge!

The following image shows the aesthetic detail of the miniatures; the only difference from the final version is the colors of the models. 

Regarding the quality of the final plastic models, there will be no changes in terms of size and detail, we will produce Darkest Doom at one of the best miniatures-skilled manufacturer.
