Greetings Guardians!

Today we are going to find out how the Order is intervening at Betel.


THE FIRST HIGH PRIEST, BASIL

The day following Elaine's self-proclamation as High Priestess of Betel, Basil was called in urgently by the Council of the Elders. They carefully explained what had happened and why they had not stopped it. Basil, the deposed High Priest, was filled with rage and despair, as well as distrust and disappointment, over something he thought could never happen. He had done his duty day and night for years, thinking of nothing but his charge and how important it was.


As the triad continued their speech, Basil thought back to everything he had lost, everything that used to make him happy. His power, the highest rank within the Order. The people of the Citadels looking up at him, making him feel proud and fulfilled. All of that was over, it would never be the same again. He would never be the same again, and any charge he may hold in the future would not feel nearly as fitting as being High Priest of Betel.


The triad, outraged by his behavior, asked him to stop acting like a beggar and listen closely to what they were about to say, since all was not yet lost.

Basil recovered some lucidity then, and the Council of the Elders explained that the situation was temporary. Elaine had become a threat they had to destroy. Basil was to stay inside the North Citadel's Cathedral Tower until otherwise instructed, away from prying eyes. His rebirth took place on the day the calamity took over Elaine.


When the Order's Alchemists returned to the Council of the Elders to confirm that the Blood Temples were contaminated by the memory serum, the triad immediately called upon Basil to go and aid the Guardians. His mission was rebuilding the Penance Confessionals in villages where Acolytes were still present. Basil's help would be essential, but Guardians had to find Relics of the Elders, which would then be given to the Order, to secure his aid. The Order wanted to avoid Guardians keeping hold of Relics. Elaine must not survive and no one was to free Mosh from the Monolith. The Council had considered all the variables that might hinder their advance, and Basil's task was essential. The first High Priest was finally ready to take back his rightful place, presenting himself to the Guardians as a resource and giving strength to the Order in the eyes of Betel's population.

GAMEPLAY BASIL THE FIRST HIGH PRIEST OF BETEL:

If a Guardian chooses to aid Basil's cause, he can equip the Legendary character after finding the Basil card in the Encounter deck and paying the required Relic cost. 

Once the card is equipped, the player takes 2 Order Mission tokens and places them on the card.

Once both missions are completed, Basil's mini is removed.

The legendary character card is flipped to side B, and the Penance mini confessional is placed on top of it. 

This new Equipment card is Basil's reward for the Guardian who helped him: this useful item removes Contamination from Blood Temples and Citadels within 3 zones of his location from Blood Temples and Citadels and grants Destiny Coins and points (you can place the miniature in an area of ​​your choice that is free from other models).


If the Guardian dies while helping Basil, the mini Basil and all related cards in the Encounter deck are permanently removed from this game session.

Greetings Guardians,

before continuing the Timeless path we want to officially inform you that, in addition to the languages already available (ENG-ITA-PL), French and German are added!

This is a great achievement and we are happy to be able to communicate it during the campaign!


You will be able to choose your language in the following months during the PM.


We would like to remind you that our commitment to localizing Darkest Doom in other languages is continuing and will continue even after the Kickstarter, we just ask you for a little patience and trust.



We thank everyone for the support and love for Darkest Doom that you are showing in so many also on forums and websites beyond Kickstarter.

GUARDIAN Castor, the Owl.

Hired assassin, killer, lowlife, criminal, delinquent, murderer. I remember the names they used to call me every time I took care of whatever needed taking care of on behalf of the Order, to restore balance where there was none. I was and I still am a Guardian of Betel, charged by the Council of the Elders with performing the most inconvenient tasks, another thing I remember well. But I can't remember the faces of my loved ones, my friends, confidants, except for yours and the other Guardians'. I feel a complete, destabilizing, void - I know I must do something but I don't know what. Elaine, help me. What happened to me? Where are the other Guardians? Why did I wake up in the Blood Temple?


"Castor, once the Blood Sigil formed, in that precise moment, we all realized you were alive - though unconscious. Your eyes were lifeless, as was your body. A few seconds later, you fell to the ground. We started to lose you. Your body was physically transmuting to the Blood Temple. However, if you were granted the gift of Rebirth, it happened after the sigil formed. I do not know who killed you, maybe the Shamans, though no one within their Clan except for Mosh has ever left exile. Maybe an Assassin of the Order, though that would not make much sense. Perhaps you were not the target - they were aiming for me. But, whatever we believe, it does not change the fact that, fortunately, you are here with us. We have a great gift, something everyone has longed for since the time of the Elders: Immortality. You shall not come back with us now; no one must know you are alive. Not even the Council of the Elders - especially not them. Until we find out who killed you, you will be invisible."


You - actually, the part of you that's now the Darkness' captive on top of the Winter Mountain - said these words to me. If you knew exactly where to find me, it means I can believe you… it means that it's really you, Elaine. It doesn't make sense, but nothing's made any sense since that day. I'm ready to do my part. I was reborn, I stood back up and I'm eager to redeem myself and start anew.

Now let's leave this forest, Aion's Herald. Let's take back what is rightfully ours.

Let's take back our land.

SPECIAL ABILITY: Discard 3 Citadel Supplies cards from your hand, one per type: gain 2 Coins of Destiny.

Gameplay: Castor is well versed in all card that use Coins of Destiny, thanks to his special ability to generate this resource. Equipment and Traps can also be played without fear of running out of Coins.

This Guardian's starting stats make him an excellent fighter and sorcerer but be careful about his Health: this value is the lowest of any Guardian, and failing to increase it during the game could prove fatal.


12 NEW CARDS: 4 EQUIPMENT - 4 SPELLS -  4 TRAPS

The new Citadel Supplies cards will not just be additional Equipment, Spells and Traps but will allow players to explore new gameplay mechanics. These new rules will not make the game any less smooth and are not overly complicated: they guarantee the same fluid play as the base game but add variety. As usual, the incredible Denis Medri will create the artwork for these new cards.

Plastic Trap Tokens are an upgrade of the cardboard Trap Tokens. The aesthetic choice to show 1 or 2 Trap parchments on the miniature is intended to show the Trap's number in the best possible way.


Now the choice of Guardians gets wider, will Castor be your favorite?

It's the first day of "Timeless", are you ready?

Evolutions of the Dark Contaminations, ACT I

The Darkness remembered how Aion warped time. Aware that the Elder had reset the nine days, that the Guardians in the Blood Temples had lost their memories and the Order had manipulated them when they were reborn, the calamity decided to take advantage of the inner chaos each Guardian was feeling after their rebirth. So the Evolutions of the Dark Contaminations, which would allow Guardians to boost their powers, were born. Thus, the Darkness would present itself as a resource and not a threat to the Guardians. In a world in which no one was trustworthy anymore, that is what the Guardians would think, or, anyway, that is what the Darkness wanted them to think.


Beheading Blades:

Molded by the Darkness as a weapon of destruction. This weapon can drastically increase the attack force of those who wield its power. Whoever succumbs to this power will never be targeted by the Lightless - but the price is steep. Each time the weapon is used, a Dark Filament will be unleashed on the Blood Temple or Citadel closest to the Guardian who used it.

BEHEADING BLADES IS CONSIDERED AN EQUIPMENT CARD.

- SEDUCTION: A COST MUST BE PAID TO PLAY EACH EVOLVED DARK CONTAMINATION CARD. HOWEVER, IN THIS CASE, THE COST IS ACTUALLY A BONUS FOR THE PLAYER.

THIS "COST" MAY BE GAINING COINS OF DESTINY, RESTORING HEALTH, REMOVING A WHITE MOTH, ETC. THE CARD IS TRYING TO SEDUCE THE PLAYER INTO PLAYING IT.

- ACTIVATION: ACTIVATE THE CARD BY REMOVING ONE DECAY TOKEN; EACH TIME YOU REMOVE ONE DECAY TOKEN, THE CLOSEST CITADEL OR BLOOD TEMPLE RECEIVE ONE DARK FILAMENT.

BY ACTIVATING IT, YOU GAIN: ADJACENT ATTACK, EACH (MOON ICONS) AND (NIGHTFALL ICONS) COUNT AS (BLADE ICONS), YOU CAN NEVER BE ATTACKED BY LIGHTLESS.

Cage:

Like intertwined vines emerging from the ground, this Cage inhibits the movement of any Guardian beneath it. The victim is caught in a web of dark filaments that also protect from any attacks, either ranged or melee. The Guardian who wields this power can also use it to protect themselves.

CAGE IS CONSIDERED AN EQUIPMENT CARD.

- SEDUCTION: JUST LIKE BEHEADING BLADES, THE COST FOR THIS CARD IS ACTUALLY A BONUS FOR THE PLAYER.

- ACTIVATION: ACTIVATE THE CARD BY REMOVING ONE DECAY TOKEN; EACH TIME YOU REMOVE ONE DECAY TOKEN, THE CLOSEST CITADEL OR BLOOD TEMPLE RECEIVE ONE DARK FILAMENT.

BY ACTIVATING IT, YOU GAIN: TARGET YOURSELF OR A GUARDIAN WITHIN 3 ZONES OF YOUR LOCATION. DURING THE NEXT GAME PHASE, THE TARGET MUST SPEND 2 ACTION POINTS TO BREAK FREE. ANY PLAYER INSIDE THE CAGE CANNOT BE ENGAGED IN BATTLE OR TARGETED.

Now let's take a closer look at the expansion: "Herald of Aion". It adds the semi-cooperative mode and the fifth player.

SPECIAL ABILITY: Discard a Relic to recover one Heart of the High Priestess token removed from play.

Whenever you are on top of the Winter Mountain, for each Mana Petal spent, you may place the recovered Heart of the High Priestess token on the round track, starting from the first round.


Gameplay: 

Any other player can complete one of the four victory conditions while the player controlling Elaine can complete his own.

Elaine, Aion's Herald, makes the game semi-coop. Her goal is to have the Heart of the High Priestess tokens still present on the last phase of the last Nightfall when the game reaches the final round. To do so, she must use her special power. If Elaine completes her goal, her victory will not be influenced by any other victory conditions reached by other Guardians and vice versa. Depending on how many Heart tokens were recovered and given to her original body on the Winter Mountain, there will be different endings and - in some cases – challenges to complete at the end of the game to find out if you really save her body and her first soul.

Death of the Herald:
  Unlike the Guardians, who are reborn from blood temples with each death, Elaine, "Herald of Aion" is immortal. It returns to the game from a point that the player will choose at the beginning of the game (indicated by the Starter Token). The Price to pay for her failure will be to lose one of the five Endings cards (starting from number 1). If she doesn't have any of these cards, she won't be able to finalize her mission. She can still recover them by sacrificing a relic. It won't be an easy task; that's why we entrust you, player!

  This is a small taste of the character mechanics is "Herald of Aion".


Thanks to all the support during pre-launch, we were able to unlock the Timeless Expansion as Daily Goals. Having Daily Goals is exciting for us because we are happy to present a new surprise each day, adding new pieces of the story throughout the campaign. The amount of content we will unlock is the same that we would unlock via regular Stretch Goals (as mentioned during pre-launch, there are more than 50 goals). For you, the difference is that this way you can be sure to get the most epic and immersive version of the game; as for us, this allows us to present in the best way possible all the unique characteristics of this new Expansion in terms of gameplay and background of characters, threats and new dangers. We will see you at 5 p.m. CET every day until the end of the campaign, starting tomorrow. We cannot wait to share these 9 days of total Darkness with you, during which we will meet Legendary characters, forgotten rituals and hidden perils.
